Being a cold weather grape variety, Gewurztraminer is right at home on the one thousand foot high altitude slopes of the mountainous region of Elgin, South Africa. The vines that produced this single varietal are relatively young, but the expertise of multiple generations of the Cluver family have yielded a wine with balance and complexity that can be enjoyed with food or without. Lilac, melon and tropical fruit aromas fill the nose while tart citrus flavors compliment the residual sugar on the palate. Pairs well with seafood based island cuisine and can hold its own with spicier fare such as Thai and Asian dishes. Fewer than 3,000 cases of this were produced and the 2014 vintage received 90 points from Wine Advocate.
