Although the Ventisquero winery is relatively young at 15 years old, it is considered seasoned and well developed in Chile, a country just coming into its prime in the global wine market. This single varietal Carmenère, an excellent introduction to this up and coming winery, is a stellar example of what’s quickly becoming Chile’s flagship grape. Indigenous to France, Carmenère has achieved commercial success in Chile where it retains the classic black cherry and licorice flavors while also featuring hints of toasty cinnamon and coffee aromas as well. Riveting tannins follow through the finish and linger on the palate. Enjoy this wine with juicier cuts of beef or heavier game and will pair nicely with savory casseroles or meat based pasta dishes.
